A consumer unit (CSU) is the new name given to the replacement of your old fuse box, or fuse board or whatever you prefer to call them This is the most important single item in the electrical system of a domestic property.

It is the consumer unit that protects the wires from becoming overloaded and also protects you in the event of an electric shock. If you still have an old fuse box with rewirable fuses consider changing to a new consumer unit, they are more convenient as there is no need to spend time in the dark rewiring a fuse, and they are far safer for you and your property.

A new consumer unit will cost between £300 and £500 fully fitted and certified depending on the size of the property. At DJP Electrical we only fit top quality consumer units. Usually we fit dual RCD units, but if you have a special requirement for an office or a special item such as a freezer, these can be put on a high integrity circuit for added peace of mind for only a small additional cost.

You are also not permitted to modify an electrical system that is not protected by an RCD, so by fitting a new consumer unit future modifications will be easier to make.
